Since French colonization of Cambodia, the city has become the national capital, and become the central zone for economy, industry, and culture. The city was founded in 1434, which is situated on the backs of the Tonlé Sap, Mekong and Bassac rivers. The capital is considered for having a beautiful and historical architecture and attractions.

Climate

The climate is hot year-round and temperatures range from 18° to 38 °C (64° to 100 °F).

There are two seasons:


  • Dry Season (6 months): December to May 
  • Rainy Season (6 months): June to November

Land Area and Population

As the capital city of Cambodia, it has the population around 1.5 millions over the area of 678.46 Km2 which is equal to 0.37% of country’s total area.
